Susan Wells Evans Obituary

Mrs. Susan Ann Wells Evans, 79, of Walterboro, entered into rest Saturday evening, September 27, 2025, surrounded by her loving family at her residence. She was the loving wife of fifty-two years to the late Mr. Tillman Evans.

Born December 17, 1945, in Colleton County, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late John Leo Wells and the late Hettie Carr Wells. Susan was a Licensed Practical Nurse, having worked for many years at the Beaufort Naval Hospital as well as for Dr. Erwin and Dr. Rodgers. She also worked in the respiratory department of the Colleton Regional Hospital. A lifelong member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Walterboro, she centered her life around her family whom she adored and always took great pleasure in providing for others and sharing a meal with anyone that she could. She loved her dogs and all of God’s beautiful creatures and often you could find her enjoying a good yard sale. She dearly loved the Great Smoky Mountains and spent so much of her time at her Tennessee mountain home.

Surviving are: three children, Kevin Evans (Tammy), Brian Evans, and Gary Evans (Melissa) all of Walterboro; four grandchildren, Nicole Burroughs (Jonathan), Shannon Pruitt (Cody), Amanda Call (Dustin), and Abby Evans; five great grandchildren, Jackson, Norah, Josie, Madelyn, and Ellie; a sister, Ellen Wells Chambers of Sevierville; a niece, Angie Barnhart (Jon) and their sons, Daniel and Nathan; as well as a dear and extended family member, Martie Hooker (Erwin).

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be directed in her memory to: Ronald McDonald House, 81 Gadsden Street, Charleston, South Carolina 29401.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 o’clock Wednesday morning, October 1, 2025, from Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 7345 Jefferies Highway, Walterboro. The Reverend David Jackson and The Reverend Danny Zorn officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 o’clock until 8 o’clock this Tuesday evening at THE BRICE W. HERNDON AND SONS FUNERAL HOMES AND CREMATORY, WALTERBORO CHAPEL, 1193 Bells Highway, Walterboro, 843.538.5408. Visit the registry online at: www.briceherndonfuneralhome.com.
