Susan Wilburn, beloved wife, mother and friend, passed away August 23, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones in Emory, Texas. She was born on September 26, 1943 to parents Linnie Howard Tidwell and Florence Evelyn Johnson. She was raised in Garland, Texas and graduated from Garland High School in 1962. She went on to graduate from Dental Hygiene school at Baylor College of Dentistry in 1965.
Susan's proudest accomplishment was undoubtedly her unwavering love and commitment to her husband, Charlie. Charles and Susan married on August 31st, 1968, at First United Methodist Church in Garland, TX. For nearly 55 years, she stood by his side, sharing both joyous and challenging moments. Their bond was an inspiration to all who witnessed it, a testament to the power of love and dedication.
Susan was an avid animal lover but was especially fond of dogs and horses. She raised several horses but was most proud of her beautiful horse, Sunshine, which she raised from a colt. In addition to animals, Susan had a wide range of hobbies and interests that brought joy to her life. She found solace in crafting and could often be found in her she-shed, engrossed in sewing, quilting, crocheting beautiful creations or solving intricate puzzles. Gardening was another passion of hers, as she loved spending time nurturing plants and witnessing them flourish under her care.
Susan was also known for her incredible culinary skills. She had mastered the art of creating irresistible cookies and cakes. Her family and friends were always treated to the most delightful and scrumptious dishes made with love by Susan's hands. As chairman of the Bereavement Committee at her church, she ensured that the mourning families always had a wonderful meal after the service for their loved one.
Involvement at her church was a big part of her life. Especially with the Fishers of Men Sunday School class. It is a class where members are close like relatives and she so enjoyed that fellowship and cherished the friendship of all.
Susan will be remembered for her vibrant personality that emanated joy wherever she went. She possessed an infectious zest for life and an unwavering love for the people in it. Each day presented an opportunity for Susan to appreciate the beauty around her and express gratitude for the blessings bestowed upon her. Her radiant smile and warm heart touched the lives of many who had the privilege of knowing her.
