I just learned of Susie´s passing. She was my best friend when I was a 4th and 5th grade student at Delmar Elementary school. I remember my first sleep over at her home when I was a 6th or 7th grade student...a memory of a wonderful time with other classmates. Although we were not as close in high school I admired her cheer leading ability and even today smile when I see her cheer leader picture on a wall in the Delmar Pizza restaurant.
I reconnected with her when she lived in Laurel. I was in nursing school then and no longer living in Delmar but was so happy to see her. Then in 2013 and again in 2014 I met her for lunches to catch up. I invited her to our Delmar High School´s 50th class reunion and then later gave her all of the handouts from that evening. Whenever we met we just picked up where we had left off. I have a scarf she gave me at our last lunch together. I wear it often.
A couple of years ago I heard she was living in senior housing in Delmar and sent her a letter there. She was living next to another classmate that I also visited. On occasion I would stop and knock on her door but was never able to connect.
She was an important part of my life as a young girl... a wonderful friend. No doubt in my mind that she is in Heaven continuing God´s work.
One only gets truly close in friendship to a few others in life. For me one of them was Susie. I was very fortunate to have known her.
