Suzanne Turner Belt

Suzanne T. Belt passed peacefully to heaven on October 18, 2025, and will be forever in our hearts. Suzie was born February 17, 1949, in Durango to Wanda Horrell and R.W. (Nick) Turner. Suzie was fond of her childhood growing up in Durango. She loved the mountains and spending her summers at Electra Lake.

Suzie was drawn to working with and riding equines and was an avid rider throughout her life. She led pack strings through the mountains, rode horseback across Ireland, and competed in events both on horse and mule. She had an affinity for mules and donkeys and was instrumental in helping to get mules accepted to the United States Equestrian Federation.

Suzie had a fascination and appreciation for family genealogy, local history, and antiques. Her interest led her to curate and contribute to the Aztec Museum for several years and work diligently for years collecting historical photos, testimony, and documents to write and publish a book about her family's history pioneering and homesteading the Animas Valley.

Suzie loved her family deeply and would go to no end for them. She was kindhearted and loved animals. Having had a wide variety of animals in her company and care throughout her lifetime. She was a good Samaritan always helping fur or friend. She enjoyed rainy days, listening to Willie Nelson, and a glass of Merlot. Suzie was humble but tough, and most grateful for family, friends, and home.

Suzanne is survived by her husband Michael Belt of 54 years, her children: Amiee (Tony) Tristano: Bowen (Nichole) Belt, grandchildren: Erik (Meagann) Tristano: Payton (Samuel) Eddy: Bowen Belt Jr.: sister: Jayne (Bob) Griffith: brother: R.W. "Pete" (Lisa) Turner III, and all her loved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A family memorial will be held to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Suzie's name to the charity of your choice.
