Suzanne Fiur Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Shook-Farmer Funeral Home Roseland, nj on Feb. 27, 2026.
Suzanne Rovner Fiur, 79, passed away on February 26, 2026. One month shy of her 80th birthday, she spent her final days surrounded by family and friends who loved her.

Born to the late Samuel and Vera Rovner and raised in New Hyde Park, Long Island, Suzanne had the soul of an adventurer. After graduating from SUNY Buffalo with a degree in English, she traveled the world - driven by a curiosity and hunger for learning that never left her. Those years abroad gave her an appreciation for literature, art, and culture that stayed with her for the rest of her life.

Armed with an English degree and a writer's sensibility, Suzanne built her life and career in New York City. She spent decades working in public relations for some of the world's most recognizable names - including L'Oréal, Yves Saint Laurent, and Condé Nast - navigating the fast-paced world of media and communications with intelligence and style. She later brought that same passion for writing and ideas to Hadassah, where she worked as a writer.

She was an avid reader and a devoted theatergoer, who loved exploring New York City's culture and vitality. Suzanne was also a longtime member of Central Synagogue in Manhattan, embracing the community and developing lifelong friendships while deepening her Jewish faith.

She was predeceased by her parents and by her husband, Merton Fiur, whom she called the love of her life. After losing Merton in 1992, she devoted herself to raising her son, with her faith and community as her foundation.

In her final years, Suzanne moved to Maplewood, New Jersey, to be closer to her family, especially her beloved grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable pride and joy.

She is survived by her son Seth and daughter-in-law Jessica Fiur; her granddaughters Melanie and Sloane; stepsons Michael Fiur and his partner Jerry Lombardi, and Jonathan and Jill Fiur; and her brother, Charles Rovner.

She will be remembered for her curiosity, her style, and her love of a good story.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Central Synagogue, 652 Lexington Avenue, New York, NY 10022, or at centralsynagogue.org.

Funeral services were held privately under the direction of Farmer Funeral Home, Roseland, New Jersey. Condolences and memories may be shared at farmerfh.com. Family will be sitting shiva Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 4-8 PM at the son's residence.
