Suzanne Patricia McGinn
Born: June 22, 1940; Sterling
Died: April 4, 2021; Flower Mound, Texas
FLOWER MOUND, TX – On Easter Sunday, April 4, 2021, Suzanne Patricia McGinn passed away in her home in Flower Mound, Texas surrounded by loved ones.
Sue suffered from chronic pulmonary obstructive disease, and until the end she drew her joy and strength from her large and close-knit family. In the weeks leading up to her passing, the home that Sue and her husband Don share with their daughter and son-in-law, Katy and Pete Taggart, was filled with children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends from near and far.
Sue was born June 22, 1940 in Sterling, Illinois to Robert and Virginia Flock. She attended St. Mary's Grade School and Newman Catholic High School. A popular girl, Sue had many friends, a great number of whom she kept in touch with throughout her life. After graduating from Newman, Sue attended St. Mary of the Woods College in Indiana. Her courtship with Don McGinn began during her breaks from college. The story was often told that Don had a rule never to date the same girl twice, but with Sue that rule went out the window. The two fell in love and were wed the day after Christmas in 1960.
The McGinn household was filled with lots of love, children and sports. When Sue married Don, she married a man with a passion for teaching and coaching. There was always a game on in the house, and often athletes, or relatives who needed a home to land in. Sue took care of her family and welcomed those who needed a place to stay in challenging times.
After raising their five children, Sue and Don moved to Country Place in Pearland in the early '90s, and immediately became involved in the golf community and the many residents' activities and charitable fundraisers. Sue was known for her leadership. She served as president of the Women's Golf Association and often organized events. She loved parties, any occasion to gather friends and family. She enjoyed writing tribute poems to be read, or songs to be sung for birthdays or other occasions. She was truly a matriarch whose efforts kept family and friends connected and cared for.
Sue was predeceased by her parents Bob and Virginia, and her sister, Nikki Flock Kraus.
She is survived by her devoted husband Don McGinn, and the sprawling family that she cherished – daughter Virginia (Ginny) McGinn and husband Tim Woodford and their kids Timothy and Bonnie Woodford; daughter Kelly Capo and husband Francisco and their sons Colin and Quinn, and Kelly's daughter Christine Johnsen and husband CJ Johnsen and their children Logan, Sam and Hadley; daughter Katy Taggart and husband Pete Taggart and their son Cameron and wife Kristi Taggart and their children Nora and Ian, and Connor Taggart; son Mark McGinn; and son Michael McGinn and his wife Shannon and their daughters, Paige and Payton.
