It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Sybil Violet May Roberts, 100, of Riley, KS. Granddaughter Nicole and great grandson Mason were by her side during her final moments.
Sybil was born in Hadleigh, England in 1924. She met her late husband Richard Roberts during World War II while he was serving in the US Air Force. After the war they came to live in the United States where they had three children and shared 52 years of marriage. Sybil loved her life as a wife and mother, tending to her home and children. She was proud to gain her United States citizenship in 1957.
During retirement, Sybil enjoyed time with her family, going out to play cards, tea parties, baking bread and shopping online as she was a self-proclaimed shopaholic. Through her journey of 100 years, she touched many lives with her sense of humor, compassion, and unshakable spirit of perseverance. She will live forever in our hearts and will be dearly missed.
Sybil is survived by her son Tom (Mary) Lawrence, KS; daughter Joy (Jim) St. George, KS; grandchildren Nicole, Laura, Melissa, Cecilia, Lavinia, Jeff, Kim, and Chris; also, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, husband Richard, eldest daughter Carol, and brother Bob.
Sybil's preference for bright colors was indicative of her vibrant character – fun, loving, silly and cheerful. Pink was Sybil's favorite color, and she requested those attending her service to wear pink or another bright pretty color.
Graveside ceremony will be Friday November 14 at 3:00 p.m. at the Valley View Memorial Park Cemetery, 9050 E. Highway 24, Manhattan, KS 66502 Condolences and contributions to the family may be sent to Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Ave., Manhattan, KS 66502.
