Sydell Johnson, a beloved matriarch and vibrant presence in the lives of many, passed away on July 5, 2025, at the age of 72. Born on November 18, 1952, in Brooklyn, New York, she was known for her larger-than-life personality and an unwavering spirit that lit up any room she entered. A self-employed seamstress by profession, Sydell was not only skilled in her craft but also a nurturing figure, often regarded as "everyone's mother" by those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Her educational journey began at Lane High School in Brooklyn, where the foundations of her industriousness and creativity took shape. Sydell’s love for life was mirrored in her hobbies; she enjoyed crafts, collecting clown figurines, and traveling. Her passion for roller skating and dancing reflected her vibrant character, with each movement exuding joy and exuberance, making her the life of the party.

Sydell was deeply devoted to her faith and was proud to be a woman of God. Her commitment to her beliefs was a guiding principle throughout her life, and she actively engaged in her community, including participating in the Black Panther movement, underscoring her dedication to social justice and empowerment.

She leaves behind two sons, Michael Jr. (Shareka) and Vance (Eevee Yvonne) Bradford, who will forever cherish the love and wisdom she imparted. Sydell is also survived by her beloved granddaughter, Merreedin Bradford, and her sisters, Carolyn and Darcell. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends are mourning her loss alongside family, reflecting the many lives she touched with her warmth and kindness.
