Sydney Rae Gibson Olsen, 73, of Franklin, Idaho, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on January 3rd, 2025, after a short battle with leukemia. Syd was born November 7th, 1951, in Lewiston, Idaho, to Jerry Auer and Francis Berneice Oliver Gibson.
Syd met and married Kevin Nyile Olsen in Boise, Idaho, on December 29th, 1972, in the little wedding chapel on the Boise State University Campus. They were later sealed in the Logan, Utah Temple.
Syd served her community as a Franklin County EMT for many years and was a practicing LPN at the time of her death, most recently taking care of residents in Palmer and Wasilla, Alaska. While in Alaska, she made many wonderful friendships. Syd also worked for many years at FCMC. She enjoyed helping Kevin at the Preston Area Cannery and the Franklin County gun range for many years. Syd was a faithful and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Syd was wildly creative and extremely talented, with many projects going on at once. She was enthusiastic about making quilts and found immense pride in her work. She loved to share her talents and taught many of her grandchildren how to sew, as well as teaching them many other crafts.
Syd is survived by her mother, Francis Gibson, of Meridian, Idaho. Her sister, Jerri Sue (Randy) Floyd also of Meridian, Idaho. Her husband, Kevin, of Franklin, Idaho, and her children Wyatt (Amy) Olsen of Logan, Utah; Piper (Cameron) Chambers of Preston, Idaho; Dylan (Catherine) Olsen of Logan, Utah; Whitney (Jason) Gibbons of Lewiston, Utah, Max (Brittney) Olsen of Franklin, Idaho, and Nils (Samantha) Olsen of Fairview, Idaho. She is also survived by 28 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Syd was preceded in death by her father, Jerry Gibson, her sister, Marcia Kay Flynn, and her daughter Melissa Vaughn, as well as her father and mother-in-law, Nyile and Colleen Olsen.
The family would like to express thanks and gratitude to Dr. Beckstead for the many years of care and compassion for Mom, as well as MaRee at Franklin County Medical Center Hospice for her service.
A viewing will be held on January 12th at Red Rose Funeral Home from 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. and again on January 13th at the Franklin Idaho Stake Center from 9:30 A.M. – 10:30 A.M. with funeral services to follow at 11:00 A.M. and interment at the Franklin Cemetery.
