Sylvan Ray Dupris

I met Ray Dupris in San Francisco at the famous Saloon. The next morning I picked him up because I was headed to Los Angeles and gave him a ride to his brother´s house in Hollister. He gave me some treasures that he had and he was a kind and gentle soul. We kept in touch for years. Ray invited me to Iron Lightning SD. A traditional enclave with no store or anything but the traditional way of life. My name and is carved in his table. We went to his cousins in Eagle Butte, sat around campfires, in Iron Lightning, visited his grandmother in Dupree and eventually we drove the back way from Faith to Cherry Creek and Rapid City. We went to Praire Edge and he told me great traditional stories-he was a Sundancer and offered his flesh many times for sacrifice for others. We drove West and crossed the Big Horns and spent a long time at the Medicine Wheel. We were surrounded by dozens of crow birds dancing around us and no humans. We made offerings. We went to Yellowstone Park and to Dillon and stayed with my sister. Then we went back to California. He made jewelry that was so unique and I have all the things he made for me.
I consider Ray Dupris one of the most unique and free souls I ever met. He survived on so little. He traveled far and wide. I loved him and am grateful for our time together. May he be in the stars with all the relatives.
