Sylvester Lawerence Ussin entered peacefully into eternal rest on Sunday, November 19, 2023, at the age of 87. He was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Westwego, LA. Sylvester attended L. B. Landry High School. He was a former employee of Borne's Grocery Store and Westside Transit. Sylvester retired from Louis Armstrong Airport after 44 years as a Skycap. Beloved husband of the late Loretta Phillips Ussin. Loving father of Sandra Ussin, Kenneth Ussin, Terry Ussin, Wade Ussin, Marie Morris, Wanda Washington, Deidra Jones, Esther Swan, Selton Ussin, Sr., Syretta Akins, and the late Lawrence Ussin. He was also a father figure and instrumental in the rearing of Jules Washington. Grandfather of the late Selton Ussin, Jr. Son of the late Allie and Ledora Snead Ussin. Brother of the late Geraldine Wilson, Olivia Lewis, Dorothy Mae Ussin, Herman, Joseph, Alvin Irvin, and Anthony Ussin. Father-in-law of Lily Trask, Martha Renee Washington, Norman Jones and Warren J. Atkins, Jr. Son-in-law of the late Walter Phillips, Jr. and Zenola Jones Phillips. Brother-in-law of Donald (Aubranell) Phillips, Vincent Phillips, Gail (Herbert) Brown, Joyce Phillips, and the late Joseph and Raymond Phillips. Devoted friend of Lilly Perkins; also survived by 25 grandchildren, and a host great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Regular Baptist Church, Christ Temple of New Orleans, and all neighboring churches; employees West Jefferson Medical Center, New Orleans Police Dept., City of Westwego, Westwego Fire Dept., Live Oak Fire Dept., Bridge City Fire Dept., and Louis Armstrong International Airport; members of Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Davis Mortuary Service, 6820 Westbank Expressway, Marrero, LA on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 10:00a.m. Visitation will begin at 8:30a.m. until service at the parlor.
