Sylvia Cubille Casiano was born on October 30th, 1951, in New York City's Harlem Hospital to Carmen and Manuel Cubille. At a young age, Sylvia was diagnosed with Sickle Cell Anemia. Despite her illness, she lived a full life and did not let her diagnosis limit her.
Sylvia grew up in New York with her seven siblings - Evelyn, Luis (Papo), Luz, Carmen, Judy, Dalia, and Juan Alberto (Tito) and she attended Julia Richman High School. She spent most of her youth getting into trouble with her sisters and cousins, and because she was "sick," she never got in trouble like the other kids did. By her own admission, she played that to her advantage.
On July 1st, 1972, at the young age of 20, Sylvia married Angel Casiano. Together they had three children, Shari, Lori, and Angel. Sylvia worked for the Mayor of Providence, RI, as a Secretary for many years. She then devoted most of her life to raising her three children and taking care of the children of her family and friends.
On October 6th, 1990, Sylvia was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in the state of Rhode Island. She dedicated her life to her faith by being an ardent student of God's word and spent 31 years preaching the good news of God's Kingdom to her neighbors. She faithfully engaged in the door-to-door ministry conducting bible studies and reaching out through letter-writing when the door-to-door work became overwhelming for her. She truly loved her letter writing!
Sylvia left Rhode Island in 1992 and moved to Puerto Rico with her three children; in 1994, she moved to Michigan until 2004, when she moved to Florida. She loved Florida's warm weather, and soon after, her daughters would follow.
On Saturday, September 25th, 2021, Sylvia fell asleep in death. She, along with her parents, Carmen and Manuel Cubille; Sister, Luz McDougal; daughter, Shari Santana; granddaughter, Liliana Hernandez, and others she loved dearly are awaiting the time for Jehovah to call them out of the memorial tombs in the resurrection.
Left to treasure her memory are: her two children Lori and Angel; eight grandchildren Jazmin, Rarshiem (Malik), Janira, Giovanni, Angel, Jasari, Justin, and Giovanna, two great-granddaughters Cataleya and Xiomara; her six siblings; 100's of nieces and nephews; cousins; friends; her brothers and sisters in faith from the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses and the countless others whose lives she touched.
Sylvia's life is truly an inspiration! She faced many challenges with fearlessness and courage. Her immovable faith in the resurrection assures us that we will be with our dear Sylvia in the paradise earth.
She will be missed and never forgotten!
