Sylvia Cunningham Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 9, 2026.
Sylvia T. Wood Cunningham of Bartlesville, OK, passed from this life on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at the age of 93 and is dancing and singing in heaven with her Savior and family members who proceeded her. Sylvia's faith was foundational and she was a vigilant prayer warrior for her church, family and friends.

Sylvia was born September 27, 1932 to Richard and Velma Tomlinson in Comanche, Oklahoma. She was seventh of eight children, and the first to attend and graduate from Oklahoma A&M (now OSU) with a Bachelors degree in Home Economics. She later received a Masters degree in Education from Northeastern Oklahoma State University.

In 1955, Sylvia met and married Carl B. Wood, Jr., and together had two sons. Carl passed away in 1987. She taught in Bartlesville public schools for over 40 years and was beloved by her students. In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting and received several blue ribbons at county and state fairs. After retiring, Sylvia became a Certified Nursing Assistant and worked briefly in Oklahoma City following her passion to care for others.

In 2000, Sylvia married Robert Cunningham, and spent the next 16 years enjoying fly fishing, canoeing and the outdoors until he passed away at 98.

In 2017 Sylvia moved to Tallgrass Estates where she enjoyed a dear friendship with Claude Long. The family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Claude for helping Mom enjoy independent living for as long as possible, and for becoming an integral part of our family.

Sylvia is survived by her two sons F.C. Wood and wife ChengZi of Spring, Texas and Bethesda, Maryland; Robert Wood and wife Nita; two grandchildren: Christopher Wood and wife Kaytie, Shelby Schroeder and husband Matt; two great-granddaughters Abigail and Elizabeth Wood; and a great-grandson Isaac Roye.
