CHARLOTTE – Sylvia Villon Dorotheo, beloved mother, grandmother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2025.
Born on February 17, 1945, in Lucban, Quezon City, Philippines, Sylvia dedicated her life to nurturing her family and spreading joy wherever she went. In 1965, she immigrated to Brooklyn, New York, with her husband, Casiano Dorotheo, before settling on Long Island to raise their four children: Nikki, Terry, Duke, and Chrissy. She and Casiano instilled in them the values of kindness, strength, resilience, and the importance of education. She warmly welcomed Robert, Lloyd, and Marina into the family through marriage, and cherished her eight grandchildren: Olivia, Kristin, Evan, Serina, Liam, Ayden, Sloane, and Kyla. They were the light of her life.
Sylvia was a devoted daughter to Filomeno and Natividad Villon, who raised her in the Philippines alongside her siblings, Yolanda Alcordo, Vivian Comacho, Filomeno Villon, Jr., and Robert Villon. Despite the distance, Sylvia and Casiano maintained close ties with their family in the Philippines, frequently visiting and sharing their culture with their children.
Sylvia graduated with a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of San Carlos, Philippines. She applied her financial expertise as office manager for Casiano's medical practice for many years. Together, they tirelessly provided healthcare to those in need and generously supported advancements in research and care, including
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Sylvia's warmth, laughter and unwavering friendliness endeared her to everyone she met. Whether she was sharing a kind word, offering food, or simply lending a listening ear, she touched countless lives. Sylvia's passions included gardening (especially her prized orchids and succulents), cooking, fishing, bowling, and spending time with family and friends. She had a deep love for the ocean, American songbook classics and scary films.
A Funeral Mass to celebrate Sylvia's life will be held on her birthday at 10:15 AM on Monday, February 17, 2025, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6828 Old Reid Road,
Charlotte, NC. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
For anyone wishing to make donations in lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the
Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital in her memory at www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html.
Please note that we will share a private streaming link to close family and friends who are unable to attend.
Although we mourn her loss, we also celebrate the wonderful legacy she leaves behind defined by love, family, and a commitment to making the world a better place. Her spirit will forever remain in our hearts, and her memory will continue to inspire us each day.
Rest in peace, dear Sylvia, our beloved wife, mom and Lola. You will be deeply missed and eternally cherished by us all.
