Sylvia Carol Estok, age 85, of McKeesport, PA, died on Friday, December 19, 2025. She was born in Kittanning, PA, on November 2, 1940, and was the daughter of the late John and Helena Cogley Laird.
She was employed as a waitress at the Club Car Dinner in downtown McKeesport, PA, before becoming a cook at Norwood Catering for many years. She worked at many catered events including the annual South Park County Fairs. Later she went and worked many graduations, weddings and corporate events on the Gateway Clipper and Gateway Party Liner. Sylvia also cooked for catered events at the Hungarian Social Club in Braddock, PA, where she and her husband Ed were in high demand for their stuffed cabbages and haluski. She later was employed by EchoStar to stock and refill vending machines at their business. Lastly, she spent about ten years cooking at Denny’s in North Versailles, PA. All these jobs were hella easier than the time and love she put into raising and nurturing her family. Her household was the center of all holiday gatherings.
Sylvia is survived by her son, Gregg (the late Kelly) Estok of Duquesne, PA; grandchildren, Ali Estok of Macon, GA; Hunter (Rachel) Estok of Brunswick, GA; Stone Estok of Brunswick, GA; Jason (Bonnie) Estok of St. Helens, OR; and Erin (Nick) Estok of Bellevue, PA; great-grandchildren, Olivia; Penelope; Malaki; Kyla; Kolton; and Adeline; sisters, Iris Richards of McKeesport, PA; and Cynthia Solera of Oshkosh, WI; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband, Edward M. Estok; son, Paul Edward Estok; and sisters, Gretchen Molnar; Rebecca Lucas; and Helen Morrison; and brothers, Elliot Laird; Eckert Laird; Merle Laird; and Dennis Marsden.
