Funeral services for Sylvia May Goldade, 83, Aberdeen will be 2:00 pm, Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with Pastor Liz Dieseth officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Sylvia died Thursday, April 24 at the Bethesda Home of Aberdeen. Visitation will be from 1:00 – 7:00 pm, Tuesday with family present from 5:00 – 7:00 at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Sylvia May Mehaffey was born on May 14, 1930 at rural Claremont, SD to Arthur A and Sylvia (Coil) Mehaffey. She attended country school, then four years at Claremont and two years at Westport, graduating from Westport in 1948. She then became employed at the South Dakota Department of Labor where she worked until 1989. She also worked as the Director of the Senior Employment program for many years, through the local Career Planning Center. She married Robert Stephen Goldade on April 17, 1949 in Aberdeen. This is where they made their home. Robert died on May 31, 1982. Sylvia continued to make Aberdeen her home. She was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, AARP, International Association of Personnel Employment Securities (IAPES), and the Brown County Council on Aging. She loved cooking, fishing, bird watching, playing cards and having coffee with her friends. She also enjoyed caring for others and especially loved holidays with her family. Grateful for having shared Sylvia's life are her children; Stephen (Patricia) Goldade, Fargo, ND, Cherie (Wayne) Booker, Redding, CA, Roberta Goldade, Aberdeen,Terrence (Kay) Goldade, Aberdeen, David (Mary) Goldade, Fort Collins, CO, Christopher (Lori Kay) Goldade, Westport, SD, grandchildren; Jamison (Richelle) Goldade, Lorri (Darren) Mund, Michelle Wright, Robert VanMeter, Rebecca VanMeter and Josie Goldade and great grandchildren; Samantha, Adam, Benjamin, Brianna, Aurora, Jetta, Alijsha, Vincent, Devin, Kendall, Trey, Abrianna and Adalina, sister, Deloris Schirmer, Duluth, MN, special friend, Ernest Hassinger. Preceding her in death are her husband, Robert Goldade, her parents, Arthur & Sylvia Mehaffey, brothers, Richard Mehaffey and Robert Mehaffey, grandson, Ross VanMeter, special friend, Clarence W. "Bud" Trego.
