In Loving Memory
Sylvia Hegney (Chapman)
A lifetime resident of Colville, Washington, passed away April 9, 2023 on Easter Sunday with her family surrounding her with love and prayers. It was a special for her to go, as her daughter Carol died on April 9, 2011.
Sylvia was born to Bert and Anna Chapman (Forester) on September 16, 1933. She lived in the Colville area as she grew up with her four sisters (Irene, Sarah, Anna and Louise) and two brothers (William and Tuney). They settled on a small farm on what is now Applegate Road. They raised many goats, chickens, cows and horses. Sylvia dearly loved her horses and rode them often with her sisters. She helped her mom take care of her siblings and do the canning, which became an important part of her life as well as her wonderful cooking abilities. Farm life was hard and taught her many lifelong skills to take care of her family. She also found ways to contribute by doing odd jobs to pay for extras. One such memory is her and her brother Willie making and selling "Bean Poles" to buy much wanted cowboy boots.
In 1951 Sylvia married Dale Anderson and they had four children (Dale, Carol, Don and Hank). She helped in all areas of farming, including setting sprinkler pipes. They eventually parted ways.
Sylvia got a job at the "Town and Country Store" in Colville. She had her childhood sweetheart Dave Hegney found each other again and married sharing 13 children.
They bought and built a house on 40 acres on "Poor Farm Road". They woud live out their lives there. Together, they raised beef cows (registered Herefords at one time), milk cows and numerous others as well as their little flock of white Japanese chickens they were so proud of. She also had a few horses "Ripple" being her favorite.
Sylvia worked hard on making their small farm a homestead of love as they both planted beautiful flowers, many gardens and fruit trees to harvest for the family(s) that grew up in that home. Besides raising her own four children, the Hegney children and granddaughter Heather also found a home there. Heathers four daughters also spent a great deal of time there and had a great bond with Grandma and Papa.
Sylvia also attended to the needs of her mom and sister Sarah before their deaths and was close to a lot of extended family, friends and neighbors.
In later years, her and Dave did some traveling before settling down to live out their lives on the farm. She became gifted in crocheting and quilt making and created many beautiful blankets and quilts. (many gifted)
Evan after her stroke in November of 2020, although a struggle at times, she continued to work at whatever she could inside and outside to care for their place and each other.
Dave passed away on January 14, 2022 which left her heart more confused and broken, but her sheer strength and will kept her going with the help and support of family.
Sylvia was loving to all and it was a hard time when they lost family, especially daughters Carol, Jessica and Alisa. She had a spicy side to her as well and kept you on your toes. We will miss her beyond words, but are grateful she's with loved ones who have gone before her.
Would like to say thank you to all who have stepped in to help her through this journey, especially this last year. Family, friends and her caretakers who have taken time for her from their lives to show her the utmost love, respect and care that she would have not gotten anywhere else, ( Shalyssa, Khiana, Heather) and many others too! We made a promise to keep her home and we made that happen.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband Dave, her daughter Carol LaDuke, step daughters Jessica and Alisa, parents Bert and anna Chapman, brothers Willlie and Tuney Chapman, sisters Sarah Chapman and Anna McKinney. She is survived by her sons, Dale (Sharon), Don (Linda) and Hank (Ranae) Anderson, step children, Belinda, Les (Susan), Marshall, Robin (Lisa), Russell (Suzette), Tracy (Suzanne), Kasey and Victoria, sisters; Irene Enquist, Louise Byrd, sister in laws; Bessie Chapman and Vonda Chapman, 52 grandchildren, 71 great grand children and 3 great great grandchildren.
