Sylvia Salter Ivie

Mrs. Sylvia Smith
Salter Ivie, age 87, of Toc-
coa, passed away Monday,
July 14, 2025, at her home.
Born Sept. 19, 1937, in
Thomaston, Ga., she was
the daughter of the late
Joe T. and Grace Nation
Smith.
In 1955, she graduated
with honors from R. E. Lee
Institute. After high
school, she attended Geor-
gia State College for Wom-
en, and later in life gradu-
ated from Brenau College
(summa cum laude), with
a bachelor's degree in Ear-
ly Childhood Education.
While living in Thomas-
ton, Ga, she was employed
by Thomaston Mills.
While in Toccoa, she was
a self-employed court tran-
scriber. She was also a
member of the Toccoa
First Baptist Church. She
loved and enjoyed her fam-
ily very much.
Family members in-
clude her son, Jeff Salter
(Terry), of Loganville, Ga.;
daughter, Gina Mixon
(Mickey), of Winder, Ga.;
grandchildren, Blake
Salter (McKenzie), and
Hannah Pattillo (Curt);
sister, Brenda Dawson,
and numerous nieces and
nephews.
In addition to her par-
ents, she was preceded in
death by her first hus-
band, Ronald Elmo Salter;
her second husband, Ken-
neth Felton Ivie; brother,
Fred Smith; and sister,
Betty Mailey.
The family received
friends at Whitlock Mortu-
ary in Toccoa from 6-8
p.m. Thursday, July 17,
2025.
The family received
friends at Fletcher-Day
Funeral Home in Thomas-
ton, Georgia, from 10 a.m.
until the service hour on
Saturday, July 19, 2025.
Funeral services were
held at the Fletcher-Day
Funeral Home Chapel in
Thomaston, Ga., at 11 a.m.
Saturday, July 19, 2025.
Burial followed at Up-
son Memorial Gardens in
Thomaston, Ga.
