Sylvia Kay “Syb” Moody, age 86, of Commerce Township, Michigan, passed away on November 12, 2025, in Westland, Michigan. Syb was born on July 2, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan,to father, Herbert Boyd, and mother, Clara Boyd (née O’Brien).
A graduate of Highland Park High School in 1957, Syb resided in the Detroit area all her life and in Commerce Township since 1968. She was known for her tireless work ethic. Syb spent decades working in administrative assistant roles in the education sector, first at the Southwest Oakland Vocational Education Center in Wixom, then later at Walled Lake Western High School. And to ensure her family always had the best of everything, Syb selflessly worked a second job in retail after the school day was done at Hudson’s department store, sticking with the company for years as it evolved into Marshall Fields and finally Macy’s.
Work was important to Syb, but her life revolved around her family, whose needs always came before her own. She made nearly weekly visits over the years back to her childhood Highland Park home to enjoy the company of her parents, siblings, and other family and friends. Syb is survived by her beloved husband, LeeRoy (“Skip”) Moody, whom she married in 1962, and her son, Chad (Lisa) Moody. She found particular joy in spending time with her cherished grandchildren, Jacob Moody and Jessica Moody. Syb was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Beatrice Moilanen, Virginia Keys, and Sue Stanley; and brother, Thomas (“Junior”) Bowling.
Although she had a reserved demeanor, Syb had a sneaky sense of humor and enjoyed a good laugh. She appreciated the quieter things in life, such as going for walks, gossiping with her granddaughter, drinking her morning coffee, lunches with friends, following her favorite soap operas and talk shows, and keeping her mind sharp with crosswords and puzzles. But during fall weekends, she could be seen cheering with the best of them for her grandson as he stepped on the gridiron for the Michigan Wolverines and in the NFL.
The world has lost a saint with her passing. Syb will be profoundly missed.
In accordance with Syb’s wishes, her body was cremated immediately following her passing with no service being held. For those desiring to honor Syb’s memory, the family encourages donations to the American Lung Association, the American Cancer Society, or another preferred organization fighting to cure cancer.
