Sylvia M. Ambrose Newberry, 84, of
Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Nippenose Valley Village in Oval, PA. Born March 16, 1942, she was the daughter of Mae E. (Confer) Shearer and Archie W. Harman Shearer.
A 1960 graduate of Jersey Shore Area Senior High School, Sylvia built a life defined by dedication, creativity, quiet strength, and remarkable resilience. She faced many hardships throughout her life, yet she carried every burden with dignity and humility-never complaining, always grateful, and meeting each challenge with grace and perseverance. Those who knew her admired her steady spirit, her ability to endure without bitterness, and her deep appreciation for even life's simplest blessings.
She was a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Covenant United Methodist Church in Lock Haven, where her faith quietly guided her life and sustained her through both joy and sorrow.
Sylvia spent more than 25 years with Piper Aircraft, ultimately serving as an executive secretary. She later worked for the Clinton County United Way, Avis America, and Nestarick Appraisal, where she continued to bring her trademark professionalism, warmth, and reliability until her retirement.
A gifted and prolific quilter, Sylvia was renowned for her precision, artistry, and the love she poured into every stitch. Her talents extended to crafting of all kinds, and she delighted in sharing her handmade creations with family and friends. She found peace and happiness near the water-whether along the Susquehanna River, the Chesapeake Bay, or the ocean-and she cherished the companionship of her beloved late dogs, Daisy and Chase.
Above all, Sylvia's greatest joys were her only daughter, Nicole, and her grandchildren, Chadd and Maegan, for whom her patience, pride, and unconditional love were boundless. She loved without condition or prejudice, offering acceptance, kindness, and a listening heart freely to all who knew her.
Sylvia is survived by her daughter, Nicole R. Rall Miller, and son in law, Jay B. Miller; her grandson, Chadd W. Miller, and granddaughter, Maegan G. Miller; her sister, Sharon A. Dietzel, and sweet niece, Ashley R. Liddic; and extraordinary family friends Amy and Craig Keen and their loving children and grandchildren, as well as Ed, Tonia, Morgan, and Derek Moltz, who held a special place in her heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mae and Archie Shearer; her brothers, Archie R. Shearer and Charles "Chuck" Shearer; and by the love of her life and devoted husband, Charles P. Ambrose, Jr. ("Charlie"). In heaven, Charlie and Sylvia are together again at last, reunited in love after too many decades apart.
Memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Sylvia's legacy lives on in the beauty she created, the love she gave, the strength she embodied, and the many lives she touched with her gentle, generous, and grateful spirit.
