Sylvia Gibson Winstead

Sylvia Gibson Winstead, 84, of Owensboro died Thursday, January 22, 2015 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born in Henderson on August 6, 1930 to the late Pete and Gertrude Gibson. She retired from the Quality Control Department at General Electric and M. P. D. Sylvia loved volunteering, travelling, crafts, and spoiling her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, R.W. Winstead in 1998; her parents; a brother, Brenice Duncan; and two sisters, Rose Cooper and Melba Grossman. Survivors include her daughter, Jeannie Gibson of Owensboro; three grandchildren, Heather (Stephen) Miles of Evansville, IN, Lakriecsia Gibson, and Tristan Gibson of Owensboro; two great-grandchildren, Kayla Miles and Corey Miles; four sisters, Shirley Terry of Atlanta, GA, Corine Shumway of Canyon City, CO, Caroline Lambdin of Zion, KY and Faye Woodard of Henderson, KY. Services will be at 1:00p.m. on Sunday, January 25, 2015, in the Chapel of James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory in Owensboro. Burial will follow in Fairmont Cemetery in Henderson. Visitation will be on Saturday from 2:00p.m. until 8:00p.m. and on Sunday from 12:00p.m. until 1:00p.m. at the funeral home. Her family would like to extend special thanks to the Critical Care Unit at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital for their care and compassion.
