In memory of
Raymond L Weinmann
January 14, 2006
Thank you Diane for calling me and advising of your Dad's terminal illness. Thank you also, Carolyn for allowing me to visit Newt at your home to reminisce and say my goodbye to a wonderful man during his final days here on earth. I guess the best way to express my thoughts about T Newton would be to share with others my letter to Newt which follows:
T. Newton Ward
xxxx xxxxxxxxx Ave.
Ocean City, N.J. 08226
June 21, 2002
Dear Newt,
While scanning some old pictures into my computer for posterity, I happened to come across a picture of me riding the ball with a ironworker while we erecting the structural steel at the court house in West Chester. It made me think back to the day of August 3, 1964 when I first came to work for you and the hard work and fun we had in the years that followed.
I don’t think I ever thanked you for the years you spent as my mentor and for the personal attention you gave to me, especially those early years when you would take the time to teach me how you could combine integrity with what it takes to be a good builder.
I look back and relish the times we would sit and laugh at some of the stunts we would dream up, as when, (because of a lack of specifications on caliber of trees) you took a tray of 3 inch high seedlings to a meeting with Ed Deisler at the Pickett school job meeting as a formal submission of the trees to be planted on the job.
At any rate, if I thanked you before, there is no harm in doing so again. If I have not, then this “thank you” is long overdue and my apologies for not saying it to you sooner.
Thank you for the opportunities you gave me and for being my mentor. Newt, in all my years in the business, I never met a person who was better at what he did than you. I wish you well my friend.
Sincerely,
Ray Weinmann
We have all lost a good father, husband, and friend.
