Tammy Lynn Krass Flatt, affectionately known as "Nana," was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 6, 2024. Sometimes the brightest stars burn out the quickest, and Tammy was certainly the light that lit the way for her family. She was born in Arlington Heights, Illinois, on August 29, 1963, to William and Leslie Krass. As a young child, Tammy lived in Kirksville, Missouri, before moving to Hurst, Texas, and later to Richardson, where she attended high school. Tammy was a delight to all who knew her. She loved writing poetry, taking pottery classes, and caring for her beloved pet gerbils.
On November 18, 1980, Tammy married the love of her life, Willie Flatt. Together, they began their journey in Garland, Texas, moving to Keller, and later settling in Krum. For the next 43 years, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and countless beautiful memories. Their family grew with the births of Nicholas Ryan Flatt on June 11, 1981, and Zanna Flatt on December 6, 1988. Tammy treasured her family above all else. Though she attended college and worked outside the home, her heart was always with her children, grandchildren, and friends.
Tammy took immense pride in her children. She was thrilled when Zanna became a licensed Barber and Cosmetologist, and there was always much laughter when Zanna experimented with new hairstyles and colors on Tammy’s hair. Tammy was equally proud of Nick’s work as an artist. She loved visiting him while he worked around the world, from Berlin to San Francisco, and never hesitated to share stories and pictures of his breathtaking photorealistic murals.
Tammy and Willie had a special, playful bond. She would often tease him in a way that only she could, like when she left him searching for the bathtub plug on weekends. Despite the little pranks, Tammy cherished the love they shared, especially the diamond ring Willie gifted her with seven diamonds—a symbol of the enduring love they built together over four decades. Tammy proudly wore that ring, and it represented so much more than jewelry; it symbolized the life and family they had created together.
A clear priority in Tammy’s life was her grandchildren. She adored Conner, Axel, and Maddox, and nothing brought her more joy than attending their activities—whether it was ball games, cross-country meets, or piano lessons. When Maddox was born, Tammy didn’t hesitate to drive across the country to meet him, knowing her heart was already captured. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she lit up whenever she spoke about them. Tammy was a fierce advocate for her family, always ensuring they felt supported and loved.
Though her immediate family was her world, Tammy was close to her parents. She made time for regular road trips with her father every six weeks to visit extended family in Houston. These trips were filled with laughter and shared memories, moments Tammy held dear. Last Thanksgiving she traveled with her with Mother to Omaha to celebrate the Holidays at Nick and Jenni’s home with all of the children and grandchildren. Tammy was the epitome of a matriarch, always caring for her family and proudly sharing their accomplishments with others. Her warmth and light touched everyone around her, and her legacy of love and dedication will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
Tammy was preceded in death by her grandson, Brody Gerst; her Aunt Linda Crabb; and Eleanor Mae West Krass; and Lena Thomas; and her Uncle Eric Facinger. She is survived by her loving husband, Willie Flatt; her son, Nick Flatt, and daughter-in-law, Jenni Bendfeldt; her daughter, Zanna Flatt; her grandsons, Conner, Axel, and Maddox; her stepson, Chris Evans; her father, William Krass; her mother, Leslie Krass; her stepmother, Carolyn Krass; her brothers, Joshua and Brandon Krass; her sister-in-law, Jamie Kelley; her aunt, Lori Spies; her nieces, Kendall Crawford, Brandi Crawford, her nephew, Kadin Owens; her cousins, Charles Fitzgerald, Genevieve Spies Forosisky, Shelly Ley, and Susann Ames; and her dearest friends, Sheree Holden and Nicki Wright. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Lucas Funeral Home, 1601 S Main Street, Keller, Texas 76248.
