Tarrence Isaiah Sykes, 28, of Norfolk, VA, passed away on March 23, 2026. He was born on January 10, 1998, in the same city where he would live his entire life, leaving a lasting impact on those around him.
Tarrence was known for his loving, fun, and family-oriented nature. A hardworking man, he was always there for his friends and loved ones, embodying the spirit of community and support. He worked diligently as a laborer, a role that showcased his strong work ethic and dedication.
He was a creative soul with a passion for drawing and dancing, hobbies that brought joy not only to him but also to those who had the privilege of experiencing his art and spirit.
Tarrence was an active member of Westminster Baptist, where he found a community of faith and fellowship. His faith was an integral part of his life, providing him with guidance and strength.
He is survived by his son, Al Azeem Khali Sykes El; his mother, Tara Sawyer; his father, Eric Sykes; his brothers, Eric and Adrien Sykes; his sisters, Cheryl Sawyer and Katherine Sanders; and his step-siblings, Ramonda, Brittney, and Stanley Ruffin. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Francine Griffin; grandfathers, Bernard Morgan and Earle Baum; uncle, Anthony Sawyer; and cousin, Antanay Boomer Hughes.
The services to honor and celebrate his life will be held at Woodlawn Avenue Baptist Church, 2736 Woodland Ave, Norfolk, VA 23504. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Justice For Tarrence Burial and Legal Support fund, which supports his family and continues his legacy of community aid and justice.
Tarrence's life was a beacon of love, hard work, and community dedication. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy will continue to inspire and influence for years to come.
