Ted Janakas Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kelley & Spalding Funeral Home & Crematory on Jan. 9, 2026.
Theodosis "Ted" Janakas, was born in Louka, Tripoli, Greece on May 1st 1928. Cherished and remembered by everyone he ever met as "Papou". He wishes to celebrate his life with bright colors and light, asking that no one wears black or dark colors. Our patriarch shepherded his family to America and built a life in Chicago, creating opportunities for generations with purpose and integrity, eventually retiring to his home in Clearwater Beach.
He surrounded himself with faith, family, and love by his children Nick (Cathy) Janakas and Toula (Scott Freberg; his grandchildren Kristen (Matt) Fiene, Salena and Cachet Retsos; his great grandchild Mason Fiene; and his brothers Fotis and Kostantinos Giannakakis. He lives on eternally with his late, beloved wife Kasiane; his sisters Garifalia Katsiavelos and Stavroula Kougas; and his brothers Vasillios Giannakakis and Panagiotis Gianakas.
Visitation will take place Monday, January 12th 9:30am at Ascension of Our Lord Greek Orthodox Church 1207 Riverwoods Rd, Lincolnshire, IL 60069. Followed by services at 10:30am. Funeral interment will be held at Elmwood Cemetery 2905 N Thatcher Ave, River Grove, IL. In lieu for flowers, please address sympathy cards to the family or donate them to the Saint Michael Shrine, 113 Hope St, Tarpon Springs, FL 34689.
