Teddy "Ted" Dayton Long, 93, passed away on Monday, October 13, 2025.
He was born in Millersville, Cape Girardeau County, MO, on September 6, 1932, the son of Fred B. and Myrtle (Russell) Long. Ted married Anna "Lois" Kitchen on September 15, 1951, in Marble Hill, MO. She preceded him in death on October 24, 2014.
Ted worked at McDonnell Douglas as a machinist and supervisor for 40 years before his retirement. He was a member of Holiday Shores Baptist Church and the Bethalto Masonic Lodge. For 26 years, Ted would spend 6 months of the year in Apache Junction, AZ. He also loved to go fishing. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his friends and family.
Survivors include his children, Sandy (Mark) Scroggins of Holiday Shores, and Bruce (Sandra) Long of Nixa, MO; grandchildren, Brian (Christy) Scroggins of Evansville, IN, Eric (fiance Jessica Wolff) Scroggins of Alton, and Sydney (Dakota) Coombes of Aurora, CO; great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Jacey, Haley, Mason, Nolan, Tyler, and Tatum; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, and wife, Lois, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Everett Long and Florence Long; and three sisters, Louella Melton, Floella Bretz, and Rhoda Caroline James.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 12 pm until time of service at 1 pm, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Pastor Rob Lemon will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.
Memorials are suggested to Holiday Shores Baptist Church and/or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
