Celebrating the Life of Ted Freeman Simmons

(Honey, Daddy, and Pop)

June 19th, 1938 - February 3rd, 2026

Ted Freeman Simmons peacefully entered his glorious heavenly home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, Feb 3rd, 2026. One moment, we were united as a family in prayer, and the very next moment, he was at Heaven's gates. Ted was born on June 19th, 1938, in Fort Worth, Texas. He was 87 years old when he went to be with the Lord. He was the son of Oran Lawson and Nellie (Kirkland) Simmons.

He was preceded in death by his infant son Kevin Michael; his father and mother; sisters Jackie Rawley and Peggie Wilson; and son-in-law Steven Hiles.

Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Donna (Thomas) Simmons; daughters Malinda Hiles and Kimberly Golen and son-in-law Jeffrey Golen, of Granbury, Texas; four beloved Grandchildren, Kevin Hiles and wife Rachel (Kollmorgen), Collin Hiles and wife Kendall (Dean), Kathryn Hiles and Hailey Golen; three great-grandchildren, Tatum and Hollis Hiles (Kevin) and Stephen Dean Hiles (Collin), who were the joys of his life. He is also survived by his sister, Carol Beams, of Granbury, Texas, and nieces and nephews whom he deeply loved.

Ted and his wife Donna grew up together and were high school sweethearts. They celebrated 65 years of marriage. He represented a Godly man in every walk of his life. He was an incredible husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Hurst, Texas where he served as a Chairman of the Deacons, taught College and Career Sunday School, and led the Senior Adult Men's class.

Ted started his career in 1958 with Frontier Airlines in Grand Junction, Colorado. He started working as a luggage carrier/agent and continuously progressed to City Manager. During this time, he served for seven years in the U.S. Army National Guard with honorable discharge. During his years of service with Frontier Airlines, his career path took him to multiple locations: Billings, Montana; Grand Junction, Colorado; El Paso, Texas; Saint Louis, Missouri; Shreveport, Louisiana; Houston, Texas; and Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, where he retired in 1983 after 25 years of service.

Following his career with Frontier Airlines, his love for service and people led him to continue leadership roles at Muse Airlines, Western Pacific Airlines, Trans Star Airlines and finally Thrifty Car Rental. After a 51-year career of service, Ted and Donna retired to Granbury, Texas.

In retirement, Ted's passion was serving as a deacon at Acton Baptist Church, where he was honored with the status of Deacon Emeritus. He never wavered in his trust in God and continually pursued spiritual growth, and pouring into his family and others the Word of God. Ted and Donna built a strong biblical foundation for their family to follow. Ted's spiritual gift was being an encourager and guide to all. Golf, fishing, friends, and family brought him great joy.

He lived a life well served.

"As for me and my house we will serve the Lord." - Joshua 24:15.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, February 20, 11:00 a.m., at First Baptist Church of Hurst, Texas. Visitation will be held at 10:15 to 10:45 a.m. in the church foyer.
