Tej Kaur

It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved grandmother and the matriarch of our family, Sardarni Tej Kaur, on Sunday, January 18, 2026. Born in 1936 in India, Sardarni Tej Kaur lived a life defined by resilience, devotion, and unconditional love.

Her early years were shaped by the hardships of the Partition of India in 1947, which left a lasting imprint on her strength and character. She was married at the young age of 18 and went on to raise four children. Family was always at the center of her world. In 1986, she moved to America to help care for her growing family, especially her grandchildren, whom she cherished deeply.

Though her life included profound loss - including the passing of her eldest son in 1990 and her husband in 2004 - she continued to give selflessly to her family and community. Her home was filled with warmth, stories, prayer, and love.

She is survived by her three children, Swaran Kaur Dhillon, Jasveer Singh and Avtar Singh Dhaliwal, along with eighteen grandchildren, thirty-four great grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored.

A memorial service will be held at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at 9:30 a.m., followed by a service at Singh Sabha of Virginia at 1 p.m. All are welcome to attend and celebrate her life.
