Teresa Tyson Obituary

Teresa Williams Tyson

October 26, 1949 - July 23, 2025

Teresa (Terry, "Tutu") Williams Tyson, 75, of Richmond, Virginia, joined the Lord on July 23, 2025, after a valiant battle with ALS. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Martin Williams and Frances Fears Williams; and her beloved husband, Joel Wright Tyson II. She is survived by her brother, Bobby Williams; three stepsons, Wright Tyson III, Jim Tyson, and Bill Tyson and his wife, Betsy Tyson; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Williams and her husband, Guy Williams, Landrum Tyson, Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth Tyson, John Tyson, Jay Tyson, and Melissa Tyson; as well as many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. Terry was born in Richmond, Virginia, on October 26, 1949, where she attended Lee-Davis High School and graduated from Longwood College in 1972. Terry began work at Morton G. Thalhimer Realtors, where her future husband, Joel, was a Commercial Realtor. Both Joel and Terry moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where Terry worked for Turner Broadcasting. After moving to Georgetown, Washington, D.C., Joel proposed to Terry, and they were married. Terry was first and foremost a Christian, a believer in Christ, who faithfully attempted to live her life as a testimony to God. Her commitment to her church, West End Assembly of God, and its various ministries touched the lives of many. The many years of Bible study with her TBS (Tuesday Bible Study) friends shaped her spiritual journey. Terry was a dedicated volunteer for Meals on Wheels for decades as she prepared and delivered meals to those in need. Terry's compassion led her to sponsor a young girl with Compassion International for the last 11 years. A REALTOR for years, Terry became associated with Remax Commonwealth in the early 1990s. Known to her industry peers for her outgoing personality, professional integrity, and her genuine concern for others, Terry enjoyed a successful career that covered the full spectrum of residential real estate. Always greeting you with a smile and a kind word, at the same time, Terry was a strong advocate for her clients and for doing the right thing. The cornerstone of her approach to everything, especially her business, was proactively living by The Golden Rule. Terry was both a mentor and a role model to her fellow Associates and a caring and empathetic Agent for her clients. Terry was a faithful and loving friend to many. especially her real estate clients, who became her extended family. She was a devoted wife to Joel for 37 years, a loving stepmother to his three sons, and a wonderful mother-in-law and true friend. Terry, "Tutu" was in her happiest place with her five grandchildren and her one great-grandchild. She has made a difference in so many lives and will always be remembered. Thank you to so many who cared for Terry these last six months, including her good friends, Linda and Carolyn, and especially the nurses at Lakewood, Hospice, and caregivers, including Beth, Lori, Annabelle, Johnna, Cece, Shannon, and Jeri. Your care and love made all the difference.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Terry Tyson will take place at 1 p.m., on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 6000 Grove Avenue, Richmond. If you wish to make a donation in honor of Terry, donations can be made to als.org.

Terry was not only my real estate agent but also a dear friend. She helped me with my very first home back in the early 90s and then with my second 13 years later. She was also a great friend and supporter of Vessels of Mercy Intl. Her smile, along with her upbeat and bubbly personality, will be missed. I'm sure she is picking out her mansion and reuniting with so many saints that have gone before her. Her faith has now become sight!

Terry was one of the rightest lights in the lives of all who knew her. She was first of all a follower of Christ. She helped my husband and me downsize 10 years ago. She didn't miss a beat. Every detail of prep and execution was done with grace and apparent ease. No words to describe her care and action. May she celebrate her reward in Heaven with joy. I look forward to seeing her again. in the Promised Land, and I will miss her radiant smile and encouraging words in my remaining years here on earth. Comfort and peace from God the Father, and His Son, Jesus to family and friends who miss her now. Mary Shakespeare

Terry and I went to school together and graduated from Lee Davis the same year. I saw her last year at a funeral of another classmate and she seemed to be doing well. Was very sorry to learn about her ALS. May God bless her family at this difficult time.
