Teresa Yvonne (Hurt) Wyatt, passed away on December 7, 2024. Born on September 28, 1949, in Fort Worth, Teresa was known for her love for her children and family. Her generosity and loving spirit were illustrated by her service to the community schools, Churches of Christ, and volunteer organizations where her daughters and family were active. Though she held a myriad of jobs - including dispatcher for the Collin County Sherriff’s Department, Electrologist, cosmetologist, receptionist, and secretary – her career was caring for her children and family.

Teresa will be lovingly remembered by her beloved children; daughter Trisha Makowski and her son Joshua Makowski, daughter Natalie Stubblefield and her son Elijah Poston, her stepdaughters and their children and grandchildren, as well as her brother Gary Lynn Hurt and his son Jonathan and daughter Carrie, her sister Sherry Doty Balkovec and her daughter Angela Doty Keister, and half-brothers Allen Hurt and Richard Ellingwood along with her many cousins, nieces, nephews, and aunt Laverne Moore.

She is joined in rest by her husband Edwin Arthur Wyatt, mother Pauline Hurt, lovingly known as Nana, her father Louie Allen Hurt, and her grandmother Ada Jenkins, along with many other loved ones throughout her life.

Highlights of her life included being selected as the first contestant for the Queen Cotton Pageant of the Collin County King Cotton Festival from Princeton, Texas in 1967, then winning 2nd Runner Up in the pageant, as well as being the dispatcher on duty for the apprehension of the accused in a 1980’s investigation. Teresa’s most significant accomplishment was raising her two daughters, three stepdaughters, and two youngest grandsons, which she considered her proudest achievement. Amidst the health challenges life brought her way, Teresa never wavered in her compassion for others. Using a cane and walker she stayed steadfast by her sister, Sherry, during a horrific neck surgery. She continued to support her family and extend a helping hand to anyone in need. Her love for animals was shared by her daughters and resulted in a variety of God’s creatures joining the family from Trisha’s famous iguana, Mnementh, to Natalie’s Arabian horses, PJ and GG, to her own fur-baby, Bailey, a Yorkshire Terrier.

Her favorite color was pink, and her favorite flower was rose. She never met a stranger and had a mean sweet tooth. She was known for amazing comfort food and taking pride in carrying on family recipes and cooking traditions, especially with Trish - who developed early the family's love of cooking and baking. Her legacy is one of unyielding kindness and generosity. Even with little to spare, Teresa continued to give and help others. Even when sick or in pain, she never failed to put her family before herself. Her life served as a testament to her philosophies, "You can be a survivor, or you can be a victim, “and “the world moves on, even when we’re not ready." Her daughters feel the last acutely.

The memorial service for Teresa will be held Thursday, December 12, 2024, at Noon at the Charles W. Smith and Sons Funeral Home, 601 S. Tennessee Street, McKinney, Texas. Any wishing to join the celebration of life are welcome to attend. Flowers may be sent via the funeral home website, or in place of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Teresa’s name to the National Heart Association, the National Kidney Foundation, or the American Lung Association (for Pulmonary Sarcoidosis research) to allow her memory to continue to live on by inspiring strength, resilience, and generosity for those suffering the same conditions that affected her life.
