Teri Evans Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McDermott-Crockett & Associates Mortuary on Dec. 12, 2025.
Teri Evans, born December 4, 1948, in Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away on December 6, 2025, in the home she created and loved. She met her final days with the same courage and independence that defined her extraordinary life, making her transition in her own way.

A true pioneer of a woman, Teri lived her life with remarkable strength, resilience, and determination. She pushed against every obstacle placed before women, -whether securing property, building a business, or insisting on her right to chart her own course.

A graduate of UC Santa Barbara with a degree in philosophy, Teri carried an intellectual curiosity and sharp analytical mind throughout her life. After college, she traveled through Europe and spent a memorable year living on the Greek island of Paros, an adventure that deepened her appreciation for art, culture, beauty, and independence.

Upon returning to California, Teri founded Unicorn Clothing Company, which she owned and operated for 52 years. Her creativity, discipline, and fierce self-reliance shaped the business into a respected and beloved fixture within the Renaissance festival community and among her many loyal customers. She built her company long before women in business were taken seriously, paving her own way with integrity, grit, and vision.

Teri's love of reading was infinite, instilled by her mother, Johan, an English teacher. She was never without a book. Whenever she discovered a new author, she read everything they had written. The number of novels and writers she read would easily fill the shelves of a small-town library.

Teri was deeply admired in her neighborhood and community for her kindness, generosity, thoughtful nature, and well-considered approach to life. She engaged with people sincerely and was known for her willingness to help, listen, and advocate-especially for animals. A devoted animal lover and protector, she supported countless creatures throughout her life.

Above all, Teri lived with unwavering authenticity and purpose.

Teri's legacy is one of courage, intellect, generosity, and a life lived with unshakable independence. She will be profoundly missed and forever loved by those who knew her.

She is survived by her sisters Jama Hashbarger (Doug Hartwell) and Kelle Evans; her nephews Justin and Cord Hashbarger; her grand-nephew Logan Hashbarger; her grand-nieces Madison, Elora, and Kinley Hashbarger; her step-son Nicklas Svennson; her step-daughter Tara Svennson; and Tara's sons, Riley and Alec.

Service to be held Sunday, December 14th at 3:00pm at Shoreline Community Church, 935 San Andres St., Santa Barbara, CA 93101
