Grand Rapids Cremation Services - Grand RapidsTerra Tarrents was born on November 17, 1949 to Virgil Tarrents and Lillian Tarrents (Baugh). Her early life was spent with her family in Indiana, where she attended Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis. She graduated from Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis in 1986.
Later in life she moved to the Grand Rapids area where she was employed for many years as an accountant. She enjoyed participating in craft shows and searching for her next treasured antique, spending time with her dogs and of course she loved the time she spent with her family.
On August 28, 2025 she died peacefully, with her husband by her side, after listening to the final goodbyes from her sons. Her long struggle with many physical ailments is finally over. Terra is survived by her beloved husband of 16 years, Steven Slabbekoorn.
Terra is also survived by her sons John Hayden of Fort Lauderdale and Will Brolle (and fiancé Liz) of Alexandria, Virginia. Also surviving Terra is her sister, Tona (Rev. Phil) Dorrell; sister in law, Linda (Joe) Smigiel, brother in law David (Debra) Slabbekoorn, sister in law Karen Tarrents, as well has several nieces and nephews. Terra was proceeded in death by her parents and her brothers, Guy and Marshall.
A celebration of Terra’s life will be held on October 11, 2025, between 2 PM and 5 PM at the American Legion Post #154 at 2327 Byron Center Ave SW, Wyoming, Michigan. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Terra’s name to St. Jude’s’s Children’s Hospital.
