Obituary published on Legacy.com by Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service on Oct. 31, 2025.
Terrance "Terry" Jackson Word, age 79, of Battle Creek, Michigan, peacefully passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2025. Born on April 17, 1946, in Marion, Indiana, Terry was the son of the late Emmerin J. Word and Emily J. Word.
A proud graduate of Battle Creek Central High School, Terry went on to serve his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He attained the rank of Specialist 4th Class and was honored with the National Defense Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. Terry honorably served his country as a paratrooper, demonstrating courage and dedication throughout his military career. He was also a proud member of the Honor Guard at Fort Custer, where he paid tribute to fellow servicemen and women with dignity and respect.
Following his military service, Terry worked at Post Cereal until his retirement. He was known for his active lifestyle and love of sports - especially bowling, softball, and basketball. Terry's sense of humor and warm personality made him a cherished friend and companion to many. He found joy in spending time with family and friends and was a devoted member of Second Missionary Baptist Church.
Terry is survived by his son, Tyrae (Evelia) Word of Chandler, Arizona; daughter, Renee Nunnally of Las Vegas, Nevada; his brothers; Carl (Shelly) Word, of Battle Creek, Michigan, and Ronald (Darnetta) Word, of Battle Creek, Michigan; his sister, Sheila (Charlie) Gudger, of Detroit, Michigan; his six grandchildren Robert Nunnally, LaShanda Nunnally, Michayla Wilson, Taliyah Word, Tavian Word, and Tayani Word; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rowena C. Word.

Renay a I were absolutely shocked to hear the news. I served with Terry on the Honor Guard for many years and I must say I learned many things not only about his experiences in his life but just about life in general. He´s a great loss with a peace of my heart with him. One day we will meet again my brother! Fred
