I, Terrence G Peterson, died March 5, 2026, of natural causes.

I died as I lived – by my rules.

I entered this life with nothing, but I leave with so many great memories. My life presented me continuous opportunities and challenges through which I developed my strengths and mitigated my limitations. My life was good. In a word: TREMENDI.

I leave behind:

*Two daughters – Shaina and Alyssa – whom I love deeply and in whom I am well pleased.

*A few friends whose company, camaraderie and conversation I enjoyed; and whose counsel I needed.

*Many students who learned in my classes and who maintained contact. I like to think I contributed to their accomplishments.

I was born October 18, 1943 at St John's Hospital, Springfield, MO the son of Neil Terrence and Eden Olivina (Byler) Cotner, Camdenton, MO. I was the first of my family lines to be born in a hospital. My grandparents are Elam W and Mary A (Sheldon) Cotner, Cape Girardeau, MO; Leslie S "Pete" and Anne (Platter) Byler, Fulton, MO. Just for the record, my great-grandmother is Appie "Ma Pat" Rowena (Byler) Byler, Old Linn Creek, MO – a grand Ozark lady. All are deceased.

My family moved to Godfrey, IL in 1949 when John I Peterson, my mother's second husband, purchased Valhalla Memorial Park. I grew up in the white house just inside the gates to the cemetery. In 1960, I legally changed my name to Peterson. John Peterson ("Daddy") did not adopt me, but he deserves the credit for raising me.

I have several college degrees, professional certifications and licenses none of which are important now. I have a long résumé of endeavours and accomplishments which I will forego. I find résumés boring, especially résumés of dead people. What you remember about me is more important than any list.

Finally, I expect to see many of you again. "Where?" is an interesting question.

-Terrence
