Terry Carper Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bullis Mortuary on Dec. 27, 2025.
Terry Lee Carper was born in California to Maureen (Dygert) and Robert Baker. Terry was later adopted by Dan Carper, his mother's second husband.

Terry grew up as an ornery little farm boy north of Hardin. He attended Hardin schools, where he happily picked on the kids on his school bus route. He joined the United States Air Force just before graduating from Hardin High School and later earned his GED. He took pride in serving his country and, although he kept a mischievous streak all his life, that spirited "farm boy" heart stayed with him forever.

Terry enjoyed telling jokes, sharing stories, fishing, camping, and listening to oldies music. He loved gardening in the summers. And he might not have had children of his own, but he produced plenty of cukes and tomatoes.

In the 1990s, Terry married the love of his life, Sarah "Sookie" Davisson. They shared many happy years together until her passing after an extended illness. He never stopped loving or missing her and carried her memory close always.

Terry was preceded in death by his father Robert Baker; his mother Maureen (Dygert) Vandersloot; many members of the Dygert family; and his beloved wife, Sarah.

Survivors include his nephew Rhett (April) Davisson and family, cousin Marsha (Dave) Woodham, Joyce Buckingham, and many dear friends who loved him like family. In the last decade of his life, Terry also became part of Marge Madler Payne's family including: Mandy (Lonnie), Billy (Apollonia), Raelynn (Kevin), Rylee, and the youngest, Sunalynn. And we can't forget his kitty: Scooby Doo. We all grew to know and love him deeply, and we will treasure the memories he leaves behind. I'm sure we forgot someone, but Terry never forgot you.

Special mention are given to Rhett, Randy Kopp, Curtis Anderson, and all of Terry's many friends who stood by him through the years.

Terry worked in several different jobs over his lifetime, including as a mechanic at Triangle Motors, with the City, and as a concrete truck driver for Melville. Of all the work he did, the "job" he loved most was helping people whenever they needed it.

Terry passed away peacefully at home on Christmas Day after a short illness. He was cremated, and a military service will be held at Fairview at a later date when the weather is nicer and his headstone is placed. His ashes will be privately scattered according to his wishes

Those who wish to honor Terry are invited to listen to some music, have a drink, share a story, and remember him in their own way, just as he would have wanted.

"The snares of death encompassed me; I suffered distress and anguish… Then I called on the name of the Lord: 'O Lord, I pray, deliver my soul!'" – Psalm 116
