Terry "Midge" Dewar, 80 years old of
Lake Villa, IL passed away at home on Sunday, July 30, 2023. He was born August 15, 1942 to the late Russell and Hazel (Lambert) Dewar in
Waukegan, IL. Midge grew up in Lake Villa, only a couple blocks from what would be his forever home for the next 55 years. He met his true love, Pat (Judith) Wood while working at Dalgaards grocery store - she a cashier; he a stocker. Midge proposed on prom night and they were married on October 14, 1961 and remained so for 61 years before Pat went to be with the Lord on December 23, 2022.
Midge studied as a sheet metal apprentice and worked hard to become a journeyman (Local 73). He would continue in his craft until he retired. Midge was a lifelong Chicago sports fan (especially Da Bears!!) and as a young adult, he enjoyed playing 16" softball and bowling. Later in life he took up golf – which brought him a great deal of joy. He coached his sons, Terry and Jeff, in a variety of youth sports and did whatever was needed to assist his daughter Cindy in her various dance competitions. When golfing wasn't an option, you could find him searching for golf balls, cleaning them and sharing them with his friends and family. After retirement, he and Pat traveled a lot and later spent many winters in Florida. They enjoyed swimming, going to flea markets and visiting the beach.
Midge was loved by all and brought laughs to everyone with whom he came into contact. His grandchildren loved seeing Papa and couldn't wait to find out what silly face or funny noise he would make. He loved to swim in the pool and cannon ball just as everyone got settled and dry! Midge was active and very handy in all trades. He was always there for anyone who needed his help. No task was too big or small for him to lend a hand. He enjoyed taking walks, riding his bike and caring for his lawn – it was always in pristine condition and perfectly green!
Survivors include his children, Terry (Wendy) Dewar, Jeff (Gay) Dewar, and Cindy (Adam) Grinde; six grandchildren, Jen (Michelle) Dewar, Scott Dewar, Ben Dewar, Jack (Julia) Grinde, Sarah Grinde, and Lauren Grinde; sister, Gloria (Gary) Schneider, brothers, Denny (Sharon) Dewar, Roger (Lucy) Dewar; sisters-in-law, Carole Dewar and Joan Dewar, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. Along with his parents, Terry was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Judith "Pat" Dewar and other siblings, Larry Dewar, Gerald Dewar and Russel Dewar Jr.
