Terry Dougan

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Terry Dougan on October 25, 2024. Born on August 1, 1949, in Benton Harbor, MI, Terry was a spirited and adventurous soul who lived life to the fullest. She was a beacon of creativity, a source of unforgettable wit, and an inspiration to all who had the fortune to know her. She resided in Niles, Michigan, where she touched many lives and built a legacy of love and resilience.
Terry was a pillar of the Niles community, known far and wide for her restaurant, Dougan's Pitstop. She ran the establishment with unyielding passion and a keen eye for detail for 25 years, reflecting her enterprising spirit. Her restaurant wasn't just a place to eat, but a hub for the community, a testament to Terry's knack for bringing people together. Beyond her success as a business owner, Terry had an adventurous streak, embracing life with open arms. She loved horseback riding, capturing life's fleeting moments through photography, and had a profound affinity for eagles. A true animal lover, she adored dogs that passed on to her granddaughter, who would often rescued strays, providing them with a loving home. She played multiple instruments including the bagpipe and was a member of the Caledonia Kilty Pipe Band in South Bend.
Terry was a beloved mother to Tanya and son-in-law John Kener. She was a dear step-sister to Lee Hause and a cherished cousin to Susie Dougan, and many nieces and nephews. Terry was preceded in death by her father, Frederick Dougan; her mother, Elsie Allen and stepfather, Robert Allen; her brothers, Rick, Mike, and Frank Dougan; and her granddaughter, Casey Kener. Her loss is mourned by those who survive her, and her memory will be cherished in the hearts of those who knew her.
Terry's life was a testament to living passionately and making each day count. Her spirit will continue to inspire us, her laughter will echo in our hearts, and her love will be our guiding light.
