Terry Hardeway was born on August 21, 1969, in Houston, TX, to Oneal and Stella Hardeway, Sr. He grew up in the Northside (Rosewood) Community, where his strong faith and commitment to education shaped his early life. Terry graduated from Kashmere High School in 1987. A dedicated member of the Law Memorial Church of God in Christ in Houston, he later became a part of Agape Christian Center after relocating to San Antonio with his family.
One of Terry’s favorite Bible verses was Jeremiah 29:11-12: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
In 1999, Terry married his beloved wife, Wilisha Franklin. Together, they raised three children: Tyler, Dillan, and Lauren, to whom he devoted his life wholeheartedly.
Terry’s career was a testament to his dedication to safety and security. He began as a recycling custodian for the City of Houston, later he worked at a chemical plant, served as a security officer for Katy ISD, and took on roles as a bouncer in various clubs. His pursuit of education in law enforcement culminated in his graduation from the Houston Police Academy in 2012. Terry then joined the San Antonio Park Police, where he served until his passing.
In his free time, Terry enjoyed collecting firearms, smoking cigars in his garage, known affectionately as “The Lounge,” sharing jokes, playing basketball, and watching movies with Wilisha. He cherished every moment spent with his family. Terry had a remarkable gift for connecting with people; he welcomed everyone with open arms and treated them like family. His warmth and kindness forged lasting bonds, making all who crossed his path feel valued and cherished.
Terry is survived by his wife of 25 years, Wilisha Hardeway; his children, Tyler Oneal, Dillan Alexander, and Lauren Corrine; his sister, Robyn Hardeway; and brothers Jeremy Hardeway (fiancé Tenesia Collins) and Oneal Hardeway. He is also remembered by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family. Additionally, he is survived by his mother-in-law, Wanda Sue Franklin; sister-in-law LaShonda Miller (Israel); brother Willis D. Cauley, Jr. (Kimberly); sister Frances D. Cauley (Aubrey); and close friends Derek (Gina), Derrick (Jamie), Reggie (Tatiana), Al (Nancy), James (Toni), Danny (Ms. Baker), and Randy (Mindy).
Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Oneal and Stella Hardeway, Sr.; his sister Christina Hardeway; and his father-in-law Willis D. Cauley, Sr.
