Terry Eugene McCarter, 69, of Dixon, IL, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on Friday, November 14, 2025. He worked as a Distributor for Hardware Products and then later for Mott Brothers in Rock Falls, IL (last known as Columbia Pipe).
Terry was born on July 11, 1956, in Sterling, IL, the son of Eugene and Marjorie (Haak) McCarter. He married Sherry Marshall on September 25, 1982, in Dixon. He was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dixon, a member of the Property Committee, and took care of the church grounds. Terry also delivered meals on wheels and made sure to keep the church members supplied with tomatoes all throughout the summertime. He loved traveling, going on cruises, and gardening; he was both a proud Packers Stockholder and fan. Terry was best known for his big heart and willingness to help neighbor, family, or friend. No matter big or small, Terry was there with a smile and willing heart for the task at hand. His ever-playful and always-fun spirit is something that will never be forgotten. More than anything, Terry cherished his family. His grandkids were absolutely everything to him.
Terry is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sherry McCarter of Dixon; his son, Andy (Dana) McCarter of Batavia, IL; one brother, Scott (Colleen) McCarter; his two cherished grandchildren, Stella and George; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents.
A Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until the time of the Funeral Service at 1:00 pm on Friday, November 21, 2025, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dixon, with Pastor Anthony Windau, officiating. There will be a Luncheon at the church to follow. Cremation Rites will be accorded.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dixon and/or Serenity Hospice & Home in Oregon, IL.
Arrangements were completed by Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon.
