Terry Silvey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home and Cemetery - Gadsden on Jan. 8, 2026.
Terry Sue (Bonds) Silvey, a devout and faithful follower of her Lord Jesus Christ,

passed away at the age of 86 on Friday January 2, 2026 at her home surrounded by loving

family members. Pastor David Little of Southside Baptist Church will o ciate the graveside

service, and one of Terry's favorite hymns, Victory in Jesus, will be lifted up by those in

attendance. Graveside service will be held at Crestwood Memorial Cemetery on Friday, January 9th, 2025, at 10 a.m.

Terry graduated from Etowah High School in 1957. It was there that she saw "that ol'

boy" looking at her from across the room in Algebra class. Little did she know that she just

looked into the eyes of the man of her dreams, Bud Silvey. She was the most beautiful girl he

had ever seen! In fact, she was voted Beauty by her Junior class and Favorite by her Senior

class. She was indeed Bud's favorite beauty, both inside and out! After eloping to Georgia to

get married and keeping it secret for a year, she spent the remaining years of her life devoted

to loving her beloved husband and family.

After attending Gadsden Business College, she began working at Redstone Arsenal

utilizing her skills to quickly move to the front of the typing pool, which in turn, quickly led her

to a secretarial position in the Civilian Personnel O ce for Mr. Gober, with occasional

opportunities to fill in for Dr. Wernher von Braun when his secretary was out. Terry made the

decision to resign from her position and be a stay at home mom when her children came

along. She often said that being a mother was the most important job in the world, and she

did it well. After both Kevin and Crystal were in school, Terry began working at the CED Mental

Health Center first as the receptionist, then secretary to the psychiatrists and psychologists,

and finally supervisor. After several years, Terry retired and went back to the fulfilling career of a

stay at home mom. Of all of Terry's accomplishments, she would say that her family was the

most meaningful.

Terry served at MeadowBrook Baptist Church in numerous ministries such as WMU

and Children's Ministries, including VBS and serving alongside Bud as Children's Sunday

School Director. She used her gifts of management and organization to serve on several

committees, as well as maintaining various o ces.

While Terry found opportunities to accompany Bud on the golf course, cheer the Tide

onto victory, and cook her family's favorite country dishes and desserts (can't you just smell

that chocolate cake or banana puddin'?), her true passion was her gift of sewing. She learned

to sew at a young age creating dresses out of flour sacks. Her skill blessed her family as she

made suits for Bud and Kevin, many frilly Sunday dresses and evening gowns for Crystal; as

well as, quilts, aprons, alterations, and various projects for her grandchildren and friends. Her

talent was unmatched, and her love for her family was evident in every stitch.

Throughout her life, Terry was confident and driven. She was always ready to help her

family, friends, and neighbors in need. If the measure of success is the love of family and

friends, then Terry was a wealthy woman, indeed.

Terry was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, William V. (Bud)

Silvey, Jr., her loving mother Clussie Outlaw Bonds, and her precious brother, Carroll Edward

(Buddy) Bonds.

Survivors are son Kevin Silvey, daughter-in-law Bonnie, and granddaughter Hannah

(Heath Tines); Daughter Crystal, son-in-law Wes, grandson Jordan, and granddaughters Lauren

and Morgan (Micah Johnson); Cousin Bobby Joe Smith (Ellen); Brother-in-law Roger (Judy),

sister-in-law Paula (Heywood), and sister-in-law Glema McCoy, along with many nieces and

nephews.

Serving with honor as pallbearers are Kevin Silvey, Wes Croskrey, Jordan Croskrey,

Heath Tines, and honorary pallbearer Micah Johnson, who is unable to attend due to military

service.

Special thanks to Hospice and Terry's doctors and nurses.

In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully acknowledges your desire to contribute

memorials in Terry's honor to The March of Dimes in memory of her brother Buddy, who

passed away too soon from Muscular Dystrophy.
