Ms. Tewkunzi Etta Green, 40, of Champaign, IL, formerly of Peoria, IL transitioned to her heavenly home at 1:50 pm on Sunday, February 20, 2022 at her residence.
Tewkunzi was born in Winona, MS on August 24, 1981 to Arleen Herndon and Lewis Green.
Tewkunzi worked for the Illinois Prison Project as a Community Educator. She attended Peoria Manual High School and graduated in 1999 at J.Z. George High School, North Carrollton, MS. Tewkunzi was a member of the girls' basketball team at both schools. She earned her Associates Degree at Jackson State University, Jackson, MS. She loved sports, especially football and basketball. She was a people person and was known for helping people and having a humble spirit. Tewkunzi was very fashionable and loved styling her client's hair.
Tewkunzi adored watching her son, Jamaine play at his high school basketball and football games. She was very supportive of his activities.
Tewkunzi leaves to cherish her most precious memories her mother, Arleen Herndon of Peoria, IL; her son, Jamaine Fleming of Peoria, IL; two brothers, Elliott Sanders, Jr. and Renaldo Herndon both of Peoria, IL; two sisters, Felicia Green of Greenwood, MS and Aneika Herndon of Peoria, IL; her grandmother, Emmie Herndon of Coila, MS; her fiancé, Debra Smith of Champaign, IL; one God brother, Grady Riley of Las Vegas, NV; four God sisters, Ashley Branscumb and Aiesha Riley both of Peoria, IL, Nikia Hayes of Georgia and Desire Darrington of Columbus, GA and host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her father, grandparents, Coleman Herndon and Ida Mae and L.H. Green.
A funeral service will be held at 1pm on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at Sovereign Grace M.B. Church with a visitation beginning at 12 noon. Pastor Alvin Riley, Sr. will officiate.
Another funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 12 Noon at Bethel Christian Disciples of Christ Church, Coila, MS with a two hours visitation beginning at 10 am. Pastor Kenneth McClung, Sr. will officiate and Pastor Maurice Warren, Jr. will bring forth the eulogy. Tewkunzi will be laid to rest at Bethel Christian Disciples of Christ Church Cemetery, Coila, MS.
