With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Thankamma Jos, who passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 9th, 2023 at 81 years old in
Austin, Texas. She leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy of love that will forever remain in our hearts.
Thankamma Jos was born in 1941 in Thrissur, Kerala, India. She was the 2nd of six children and the only girl amongst her five brothers. In October 1964, Thankamma married C.K. Jos, Chakkalamattam House, Thrissur, Kerala, who passed away in June 2005. They lived in Hyderabad, India with their two children, C.J. Paul (Saji) and Seena. She embraced her role as a mother with unwavering dedication, love, and guidance to ensure a successful future for her children. Thankamma worked as a treasurer in multiple community associations and was an excellent seamstress. She was known for her outgoing personality and others were often amazed by her incredible memory and her ability to remember even the tiniest details.
Thankamma witnessed her children migrate to the United States. Though separated by distance, the bond between them remained unbreakable, and she continued to be an unwavering source of strength for her children, grandchildren and their families. She visited the U.S. many times, most recently in May 2022 for the wedding of her granddaughter, Anisha. We were fortunate to have her living with us during her final year. In this time, she shared stories of her life, instilling a sense of pride and heritage.
Thankamma was a God-fearing and devout Catholic. She had a daily routine of watching the Syro Malabar Catholic mass, the Divine Mercy Chaplet and the Holy Rosary. She was a fan of Father Daniel Poovannathil and watched his sermons. Despite her disability, she loved attending Holy Mass every Sunday at the St Alphonsa Syro-Malabar Catholic Church,
Austin, Texas and spending time with the community.
As we bid farewell to our beloved mother, we find solace in the memories we shared, the values she instilled in us, and the love that will forever reside within our hearts. Her warm smile, irresistible laugh, compassionate nature, and witty remarks brought joy and comfort to those around her. Her life was a testament to the power of love, sacrifice, and the unwavering bond of family.
Thankamma is survived by her brothers, K.K. Anto and K.K. Francis, her loving children C.J. Paul (Saji) and Seena Mani, their spouses, Sonia Paul and K.V. Mani, her grandchildren Anisha, Simmi, Priyanka, Roshan and grandson-in-law Aashish. Though she may no longer be with us in person, her spirit will forever guide us, and her memory will forever be cherished.
May her soul find eternal peace, and may we find strength in the love and memories she left behind.
