Thayne Jr. “Jiggs” Joseph Curtis, age 68, died on July 11, 2023 after an unexpected health complication. He was cared for and made comfortable by the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, IA where he passed away peacefully.
Thayne was born March 16th, 1955 in Hawthorne, NV to his parents Thayne Sr. and Edith (O’Dell) Curtis. The family later move to Cherokee where he remained for the rest of his days. Thayne attended Washington High School, and later worked a myriad of jobs. Of his various jobs, Thayne worked construction, pest control, at the packing plant IBP in Storm Lake, IA, and floor cleaning to name a few until his retirement around 2013. He found his lifetime partner later in life in Tara Hodgeman.
Anyone who knew “Jiggs” was well aware of his passion for fishing and motorcycles. He was an avid collector of all sorts of fishing gear, racing memorabilia, and hats. An animal lover through and through, Thayne cared dearly for all his pets like they were family.
He was preceded in death by his parents— his mother in 2004 and his father in 2012— and his partner Tara in 2020.
Thayne is survived by his three children: his sons Sean (Cindy) Curtis of Harvesy, AL, Shane (Keila) Curtis of Boyden, IA, and his daughter Zoe’ Meadows of Cherokee. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, his two sisters: Patrice (Robin) Martin and April (Lee) Wallace, and nieces and nephews.
