Thelma Moore Cantrell of Gainesville, GA, passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at Cedarhurst Senor Living of Oakwood at the age of 95 after several years of declining health. Thelma was born on January 26, 1931, to the late Charles E. and Sara Addie Moore, she was the eldest of seven children, including Juanita, Barbara Ann, Sue, Peggy, Jimmy, and Ricky.

Thelma was married to Horace Lanier Cantrell for 60 years prior to his death in 2010. She was a long-time member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church and the "Whosoever Will" Sunday School class. She attended Berry College and was a telephone operator in Gainesville, Rapid City, SD, and Lawrenceville retiring from Southern Bell. She also worked as a secretary for her husband Horace, who was a Golddkist District Manager. Thelma enjoyed traveling, gardening, and spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her sisters, Barbara Ann Buffington, Cleveland, GA, Sue Orr, Toccoa, GA, Jimmy (Gail) Moore and Ricky Moore of Heiskell, TN.

Thelma and Horace had no children of their own, but were blessed with many nieces and nephews. For the last several years she had been cared for by her nephew and his wife, Charlie and Martia Buffington of Cleveland, GA

Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Matthews officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in memory of Thelma Cantrell to Poplar Springs Baptist Church, 3104 Poplar Springs Church Rd, Gainesville, GA 30507.

Memorial Park Funeral Home, 2030 Memorial Park Drive, Gainesville, Georgia 30504 is in charge of the arrangements.
