Thelma Grace Cromwell-Moss, daughter of the late Anthony Cromwell and Archibelle McCotter Cromwell, later known as Amatullah Sabreen Shakir, was born on May 19, 1939 in Boston, MA departed this life on October 31, 2022.
As a young child she was very studious and gravitated to music and the arts, where she earned a Marian Anderson scholarship for singing. In her teenage years, she gravitated to the Muslim faith and in those pivotal years studing under the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, and Malcom X, while also befriending a young minister Louis Farrakhan.
She received her education in the Boston public schools system where she graduated from Girls High School. She is a graduate of Antioch College (now Cambridge College) and Boston University. At B.U. she would meet and befriend a young Martin Luther King Jr.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to Willie James Moss Sr. From this union, three children were born, Willie James Moss Jr., Marwan Johnathan Moss, and Namala Thelma Moss. They were the joy of her life.
She was a devoted mother, educator, and business woman in the community. She was one of the original founders of the ASWALOS House (All Sisters With A Lot Of Soul). As an educator, she helped create programs for early introduction to childhood education called CCED, the Mass Experimental school program and Another Course to College (ACC).
Thelma wore many hats, she was an entrepreneur, and also participated in many democratic organizations. She was the founder of AA Glassmobile which was run by both she and her husband. After their divorce, she founded and ran two other companies, Corona Architectural Glazing Systems, and AAG Industries.
She studied and had degrees in applied Sciences and Biotech. She helped create patents for clean water development.
She served in the Order of the Eastern Star, as a Past Worthy Matron.
Sister Thelma became a member of Morning Star Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop John Matthew Borders III. As a member, she served in the Health Ministry.
She was the vice-president of the residents association at Cabot Park Village, a member of Sukyo Mahikari, and a life long student working on a doctoral degree dealing with stress in the black community and the impacts of the transatlantic slave trade on the present day descendents. She traveled numerous times to Japan, and the Ivory Coast, where she tried to learn both Japanese and French.
The life and memory of our loved one shall long be remembered by one daughter, Namala T. Moss, two sons, Willie J. Moss Jr., Marwan J. Moss, a daughter-in-law Irma Moss, and grandson Khalil M. Moss. She also leaves to mourn a brother Abdul Kareem Shakir, Nieces/Nephews: Michele Ann Cromwell, Anthony Leo Cromwell, Jamilah Malak Shakir, Jamil Walid Shakir, George Cromwell II, George Cromwell III, Crystal Cromwell and Kim Cromwell Pope.
Thelma was preceded in death by her brother George Walter Cromwell, and niece Hanifah Amatullah Shakir.
From an additional union, she leaves to mourn John Cromwell (brother), Vivian Cromwell Beard (sister), Robert Cromwell (brother) Nieces/Nephews: Jasmin Cromwell, James Beard, Sharde Cromwell, Brian Cromwell, Ramen Cromwell, Dana Cromwell, Seb Cromwell, and Isis Cromwell. Cousins: Louise Andrews, Walter Cromwell, Geraldine Cancel, Murial Monteiro, Shirley Liete, Hilda Ruffin, Wallace Currie, Nicole Sandra Cromwell Breedy, and a host of unmentioned cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews. Predeceased from this union are cousins Lois Shaddock and Francis Garrison
