Thelma Genwright Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Campbell Funeral Chapel - Trenton on Dec. 10, 2024.
Thelma Lee Genwright, age 87, of Trenton, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 8, 2024.
Thelma was born to James and Ida Mae Salmons on July 21, 1937, in Mullins, SC. She married Willie James Genwright on January 13, 1956, and they raised four children. Thelma was a devoted sister, mom, grandma, and great-grandma. You could always find her in the kitchen, lovingly preparing delicious meals for her family and friends. Her culinary talents were legendary, especially when it came to baking. And boy, could she bake a cake! If you wanted the most delectable, melt-in-your-mouth homemade cake, you had to try one of Thelma's unique creations. Her cakes were not just desserts but centerpieces at countless family gatherings and community events. She also loved to take pictures to capture precious family moments.
Mother Genwright was a faithful member of Jesus My Light Holy Temple in Trenton, NJ. She sang in the Senior choir, served as church secretary, and shared her wisdom as a Sunday School teacher, mentor, and mighty prayer warrior. Before retiring to focus on her family and church activities, she dedicated many years to serving as a food service professional for Trenton's Board of Education.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ida Mae Salmon; husband, Willie James Genwright; son, James Willie Genwright Sr; and brothers, James Philips Salmon and Jack Salmon.
She is survived by three children: Wilton (Anita) Genwright of Lawnside, NJ, Hattie (Perry) Brown of Hamilton, NJ, and Rodney Genwright of Trenton, NJ; daughter-in-law Bailey Genwright of Spring Lake, NC; sisters, Culestine Kemper and Yvonne Brunson of Ewing Township, NJ; brother, Jonathan Salmons of Marion, SC; seven grandchildren, James (Victoria) Genwright, Jason (Krystal) Genwright, Rashid Watkins, Justin Genwright, Christopher Leath, Shannon (Amir) Clark, and Shannel Brown; and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and special caregiver Belithia Bright.
