Thelma Jackson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Black and Clark Funeral Home on Jan. 7, 2026.
Thelma Jones Jackson was born on August 8, 1921, in the quiet town of Rentiesville, Oklahoma, to James Franklin Jones and Aplis Hill Jones. She was the sixth of nine children, all of whom have since preceded her in death, yet each one shaped the roots of a family tree she would one day nurture with strength and grace.

She was raised in Rentiesville, where she graduated from Rentiesville High School and began building a life grounded in service and faith. It was there she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at First Baptist Church of Rentiesville under the guidance of Rev. Robinson.

In 1942, Mrs. Jackson moved to Dallas, Texas-a move that would shape the next chapters of her life. There, she met and married Obbie Sally. Together, they welcomed two daughters, Doris Jean and Ruthie Leane, and built a foundation centered on love, family, and enduring values.

Later in life, she entered into holy matrimony with Arthur Thomas Jackson. Their union was marked by warmth, mutual devotion, and the quiet strength of a shared life. She worked with dignity as a domestic worker while maintaining the heart of a home filled with care. Their marriage remained a lasting bond until Mr. Jackson's passing in 1999.

A woman of deep faith, Mrs. Jackson was a faithful member of Good Street Baptist Church for many years. She served diligently in multiple church ministries, including the Miller King Sunday School Class, the Willing Workers, and the Deaconess Board. Her presence-gentle, kind, and full of grace-left an imprint on all who knew her. She was more than a member of the church; she was a cornerstone of it, beloved as a mother figure by generations beyond her own.

Mrs. Jackson leaves behind a rich and living legacy, celebrated today by the family who knew her as their "Treasure Matriarch." She is survived by Two daughters Doris Hall and Ruthie Sally, four grandchildren: Chandra Chiles, Shari Sally, Mechel Nixon, and Nicole Barrett; eight great-grandchildren: John Chiles, Nicholas Mathis, Cameron Morris, Dreylon Rose, Treylon J. Lewis, Holli D. Nixon, Hope Chiles, and Joy Chiles; and three great-great-grandchildren: Nicholas Mathis Jr., Nariyah Mathis, and Nyla Mathis. "A beloved play son, Robert Hurd, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends, and loved ones."

Her life was a testament to love, faith, and quiet resilience. Thelma Jones Jackson lived with purpose, led with compassion, and carried herself with grace. Her legacy will not simply be remembered-it will be lived, through the lives of all those she touched.
