Newton Grove, NC: Mrs. Thelma Keene Johnson, age 94, of Hood Grove Church Road passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2025 at SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. Funeral Services will be held-11:00 AM Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at Hood’s Grove Baptist Church in Newton Grove. Officiating will be Revs. Scott Betts and Chris Lee. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Johnson was born on November 6, 1930 in Sampson County to the late Kirby Atlas and Katie Jane Thornton Keene. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Talmadge Lee Johnson; granddaughter, Rebecca Ann Honeycutt; son-in-law, Robert William Honeycutt; and eight brothers and sisters. Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker, farmer’s wife, and caregiver of many neighborhood children, nieces, and nephews. She was a long-time member of Hood’s Grove Baptist Church and served as music director for many years. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

Survivors include her daughters, Debra Johnson Honeycutt and Brenda Johnson Burton and husband, Jerry; son, Gary Talmadge Johnson and wife, Cynthia; grandchildren, Katherine Honeycutt Larue, Melinda Grey Honeycutt, Matthew Robert Honeycutt, Stephanie Nicole Braun and husband, Zack, Jessica Johnson Dobbins and husband, David, Brittany Jean Burton, Kimberly Ann Lichtsinn and husband, Jacob; and Parker Lee Johnson; eleven great grandchildren; sister, Faye Keene Betts; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at Rose and Graham Funeral Home in Benson.

Flowers are welcomed; however, memorials may be made to SECU Hospice House 426 Hospital Rd, Smithfield, NC 27577for their outstanding care and respect in the final days.
