Thelma Marie Taylor, age 89, of Climax, passed away from surgery complications at Centrica Rose Arbor Place on December 1, 2024. She was born on April 24, 1935, in Calhoun County, Michigan, the second oldest daughter of Charles O. and Pauline I. (Hoskins) Schneider. Thelma was a lifelong resident of Climax, except for the six years she lived on Travis Air Force base in California. She graduated from Climax High School in 1953. Thelma married Richard Taylor, with whom they had four daughters. She retired from Kellogg’s after 30 years of service.
Thelma was a longtime member of MSUE Climax Homemakers Extension. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and all kinds of needle crafting. Many a time she could be seen with knitting needles, making mittens, crocheting a warm and cozy baby blanket, and/or cross stitching a beautiful picture. This past summer, Thelma could be found at Binder Park Zoo with her “sidekick”, Jameson, or visiting local farms.
Thelma is survived by her daughters, Laura Schneider, Teresa Hoffman (Rick Major), Pamela (Ricky) Burrel, and Melessa (Miranda Moore) Taylor; grandchildren, Elizabeth Schneider, Rebecka Hastings (Ashley Leger), Jessica Wright (Joe Novak), Christina (Danny) Storto, Richard Burrel and Rickia (Carlos) Kelly; and great-grandchildren, Michael, Jameson, Jaycob, Jada, Isabella, Dominic, Dominique, Saint, Khairi and Karliana. She is also survived by her sister, Joyce Harrison, and Leila “Tootie” (Roger) Knowles; aunt, Barbara Holcomb.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; her older sister, Bonnie Valkner; her grandson, Richard C.T. Hastings; and her special friend, Clare VanMiddlesworth.
