Thelma M. Welsch passed away peacefully on October 19, 2025 at the age of 95. Up until the end, she remained sweet and graceful, celebrating the love of family and friends, and expressed gratitude for her long life, which was full of wonderful and varied experiences.
Born on November 18, 1929 in Yates Center, Kansas, Thelma was a devout Christian who lived a life marked by love, kindness, and dedication to her family.
Thelma was raised on a farm in the midwest. Her love of good food and fresh vegetables stem from her childhood on the farm, where she milked cows, tended the garden and cooked for the family. A wonderful cook, she has passed down many of her fabulous recipes. She once worked as an airline flight attendant and had many wonderful travel experiences during that time and after. She found joy in the simple things-whether it was preparing and sharing a meal with family, vacationing with her husband and three sons, water aerobics, bowling, playing cards, singing and dancing. To her children, she was a steady presence and guiding light, always ready with wisdom, a helping hand and unconditional love.
Thelma is survived by her husband, Eugene H. Welsch; her sons Steven L. Welsch (Sheilah), Gary A. Welsch (Bridget), her daughter-in-law, Vicky Welsch; her four grandchildren, Brian Welsch, Lainey Kennedy, Cade Welsch and Ivey Welsch; and seven great-grandchildren. She was welcomed into heaven by her parents, Paul and Esther Brilke; brother, Fred Brilke, sisters, Dorothy Julian and Juanita Brilke; her first husband, John V. Powell; and her son, John W. Welsch.
A memorial service celebrating her life was held at 3:30pm on October 21, 2025 at McGill-Scarbrough Chapel, Lanier Village Estates, Gainesville, GA where family and friends will gather to honor her memory.
